The Process

How to hire a nanny in Ontario

  • Step 1

Contact us, and we will determine the best selection of qualified nannies for you to choose from (based on your particular circumstances).

  • Step 2

If you don't already have a "payroll number," please call 1-800-959-5525 and in a couple of minutes you will have your new 15 digit payroll number. This is required before you advertise for a caregiver.

In a few days you will receive (in the mail) a confirmation email - this has to be faxed to the Job Bank (we can take care of all that). They also require 2 items proving your address (utility bills will be acceptable).

We will advertise the position at the National Job Bank for you (required by law). Please let us know exactly what time of day you can receive calls from applicants. We also need your email address to complete the process.

Make certain that you include the following requirements. A) Full Time B) Minimum High School Education C) Rate of pay has to be minimum wage or higher (currently $10/hr) D) Room and Board maximum deduction of $85.25/wk E) List your name, geographic location, and contact number

This will take 14 days (plus the time it takes for them to receive the faxes listed above).

  • Step 3

All the rest will be taken care of by us, or for those of you who are adventurous, we can guide you through it all.

    a) Application Form for Service Canada

    Fill out form: EMP5093

    b) Attestation of Identity, you must have your doctor, or accountant (or someone approved from the list) sign this form. This basically confirms that you are who you say you are!

    c) Nanny/Employer contract - this isn't included in the service canada application - it is between you and the nanny, and they will need a copy to submit at their end.

    d) Recruitment Report, you must print out the job bank advertisement and include your ID number and date of ad placement.

    e) NOA proof of income, your family income must be $50,000 - $70,000 minimum (depending on the country where the applicant is coming from).

    f) Enclosure list form has to be filled out.

    g) Everything will be sent by registered mail to the following address:

    Service Canada
    Foreign Worker Program
    P.O.Box 6500
    Toronto LCD
    Downsview A
    Toronto ON
    M3M 3K4

Fax: 416-954-3107 or 1-866-720-6094 (toll free)

In about three weeks, Service Canada will phone you to verify the information. If all is well you will receive (in the mail) an LMO (labor market opinion). This is what the nanny needs to apply for the 'work permit' to be your live-in caregiver.
